The Verifone P400 is a premium countertop pin pad that accepts a variety of payment methods, including major cards, NFC/contactless options, and mobile wallets. It comes outfitted with a bright, clear, easy-to-use capacitive touchscreen, a responsive 15-key keypad, and an integrated speaker, among other features. Supported by a Linux-based operating system, this device exists to add functionality to your business and can be used in a number of different professional settings.
The P400 has not been discontinued and can still be purchased online.
The Verifone P400 and the Verifone P400 Plus are similar devices, but there are a few key differences between them. Both share some of the same dimensions, with a 3.5” display, built-in speaker, and backlit keypad, and both devices are capable of accepting a number of different methods for payment. However, befitting its name, the P400 Plus is a more advanced model, with a greater memory capacity (512MB Flash + RAM as opposed to the original Verifone P400’s 384MB), Bluetooth 4.2 connectivity, and compatibility with both Lightspeed Payments as well as Verifone’s Engage payment engine.
The Verifone P400 and the Verifone P630 have nearly identical keyboard layouts and accept pretty much all the same payment options. However, they both work with different processors: the P400 has a secure, ARM 32-bit RISC processor, while the P360 supports Quad-core Cortex-A53 processing. Regarding multimedia features, the P630 has a speaker and a buzzer instead of just a speaker. It also has a barcode scanner and QR decoding feature that can be used at checkout. The P630 also supports 1GB of RAM and 8GB of Flash memory, while the P400 supports 128MB of RAM and 256MB of Flash memory.
While the P200 and the P400 exist under the Verifone banner, the P200 has been custom-designed for merchants with more modest needs. In other words, the P200 is more suited for small-to-mid-sized businesses, like retail boutiques or farm-to-table restaurants. Both pin pads are supported by the same operating system and processor, and both come with the same optional accessory features, like a mounting pole and a privacy shield. However, the P200 boasts a smaller display (2.8 inches instead of the P400’s 3.5) and a built-in navigation pad, which the P400 lacks. The P400 also has a Micro SD option, which the P200 does not.
See page 11 in the user manual for instructions on how to set up your Verifone P400.
