Frequently Asked Questions

The default password for the PAX A35 is 9876. If this password doesn’t work, try pax9876@@.

To reset the PAX A35, press and hold the ‘X’ and ‘O’ button for approximately ten seconds.

  1. Make sure your device’s multi-function cable is connected. For steps on how to connect the multi-function cable to your PAX A35, consult the user guide.
  2. Power on the terminal and confirm that your USB cable is plugged in.
  3. Confirm the language display settings on your device.
  4. Confirm the Terminal Network and Ethernet connections.
  5. Configure your device’s WiFi connection. For instructions on how to do this, see Q4 below.
  6. Use a one-time passcode to activate your terminal.
  7. Set up your passwords. For guidelines on password parameters, consult the user guide.

  1. Go to the Settings icon on your main screen.
  2. Once in Settings, select “Please Input Password.” Use the keypad to type the appropriate password (either 9876 or pax9876@@).
  3. Following this, select the checkmark icon and press the green enter key to confirm.
  4. Back in Settings, select “Network & Internet.”
  5. Select the WiFi option.
  6. If WiFi is off, turn it on. If WiFi has been enabled, you will see a list of available networks appear on your display.

The PAX A35 and the PAX S300 are both PCI PTS-certified pin pads that exist under the PAX banner. Both can be used in the hospitality, restaurant, or retail industries, and both accept magstripe, smart card, and contactless payments. The A35 has 8GB of Flash and 1GB DDR, with a Micro SD slot that supports up to 128GB of memory. The PAX S300 supports 128MB of Flash and 64MB of DDR, totaling 192MB of memory. The S300 also has a 3.5” LCD touchscreen, while the PAX A35’s is a 4” capacitive screen with WVGA resolution. The S300 comes equipped with a PIN-ciphered key algorithm to add an extra layer of security to all transactions.

  1. Click the card icon on the main screen then enter the transaction amount.
  2. You or your customer can enter the requisite card information (number, expiration date, CVV) manually using the PAX A35’s “Manual Entry” feature.
  3. Once all relevant information has been entered, confirm the total amount by pressing the green button.

If your A35 fails to process your manual entry, this feature can be disabled on your device. If you encounter this, reach out to a PAX customer support representative for assistance.

  1. Press the icon in the upper right-hand corner of your screen. If this fails, tap all four corners of your screen in a clockwise sequence.
  2. When prompted, enter the password for your device. Your password may or may not be the current date, to be entered in the MM/DD/YYYY format.
  3. Once directed to Settings, select “Host Settings.”
  4. Select the “Batch Close” option. This will automatically close the batch of any outstanding transaction you have still pending in your system.

A connect error occurs in PAX devices when the point of sale terminal cannot send payment data for processing. Often, this is because the IP address linked to the PAX device has not been configured yet (this can be done by going to “Station Configuration” in your PAX device before selecting “Credit Card Setup”). Fixing this error requires several steps, including verifying your credit card settings, IP address, and the working functionality of your PAX A35.

Possible reasons for this may include:

  • Your app hasn’t started
  • The WiFi connection isn’t strong enough
  • The POS register setting is off
  • The PAX device needs to use Static LAN mode or DHCP LAN mode
  • The CC Terminal MAC Addr or Terminal Port field isn’t set to 10009
  • The communication type in BroadPOS is set to something other than Ethernet, for example, com1
